Whether your supply can take a charger
This is the first thing to check and the thing most people skip. A 7kW charger is a substantial continuous load, and whether your existing supply and consumer unit can take it depends on your main fuse rating and what else is drawing power. We check this before quoting, so nobody discovers a problem halfway through an installation.
Where the unit should go
The best position is a balance between where the car parks, where the cable enters, and where you will actually want to plug in on a wet night. A charger fitted in the tidiest spot for the installer is often the most annoying spot for the owner. We work out the cable run with you first, because moving it afterwards means making good twice.
Load management and future proofing
If your supply is tight, a load-managing charger can throttle itself when the house is drawing heavily rather than tripping the main fuse. It is worth considering even where it is not strictly needed, particularly if you might add a second vehicle, a heat pump or solar later.
Protection and compliance
EV charging has its own requirements around earthing and fault protection, because a fault on an outdoor unit with someone touching a car is a serious matter.
